Horton sweeps Saturday night's portion of NASCAR weekend at TST
Austin Horton invaded Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Ala.) on Friday night to pull double duty in the Super and Crate Late Model ranks for the NASCAR weekend. With Super Late Model time trials setting the grid for the feature, Horton topped the 17-car field to place him on the pole. Losing the battle to fellow front-row starter Sam Seawright, Austin notched a runner-up finish behind Seawright with Todd Morrow, Dillon Tidmore, and Josh Adkins rounding out the Top-5. For the Crate Racin’ USA-sanctioned event on Friday, Austin posted the fourth fastest time in his group, which positioned him seventh on the starting grid for the $2,000-to-win A-Main. Clawing forward two spots in the 30-lap affair, Horton notched a fifth-place finish. He trailed Matt Henderson, Cody Overton, Jason Welshan, and Jake Knowles to the checkers.
On Saturday evening in his Super Late Model, Horton outdueled fast-qualifier Todd Morrow in the feature to capture his second win of the season. He beat Morrow, Dillon Tidmore, Sam Seawright, and Dillon Crim to the checkers.
With his third fastest lap in time trials positioning him on the second row for the Crate Racin’ USA feature, Austin nosed ahead of race-long pacesetter Christian Hanger with six laps remaining to secure his second win of the weekend and third overall on the season. He finished ahead of Jake Knowles, Hanger, Jimmy Thomas, and Tanner Collins to collect $2,500.
